When it comes to getting the best possible outdoor lighting design, you know that you need a company that is highly skilled. Unfortunately, there are a lot of professional outdoor lighting companies that simply don’t have what it takes to create custom designs that bring more value to your Memphis property.
Recently, I (Jesse Wisley) became a Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer. This was after completing an intensive program through the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals (AOLP), a national organization.
Achieving this certification was no small feat. It involved a significant investment of time and money and I am now the only Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer within a 200-mile radius.
Of course, I understand you might be wondering how this benefits you. It’s not something that I would have invested the time into if it wasn’t going to benefit my customers which is why I want to explain why it matters.
Here are some reasons you should consider a Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer for your outdoor lighting project.
An area where professional landscape lighting often goes awry is in the design. You might notice that a lot of lighting projects look identical. That’s because the landscape lighting designer didn’t create a custom design and failed to think outside of the box.
Often this is simply because they haven’t been exposed to any other way of doing outdoor lighting. They know how to install lights a certain way…and that’s it.
This is where hiring a Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer can make a world of difference. In fact, one of the principles of the program I completed with the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals is to “expose participants to different perspectives in lighting design.”
A huge reason why I wanted to become a Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer was to learn a variety of techniques and skills that could benefit my clients. The last thing that I want is to create boring designs. Another principle of the program that I completed was to receive “advanced levels of landscape lighting design training.”
Once the design work is completed, you want to make sure that your outdoor lighting is installed properly, too. We’ve talked before about how outdoor lighting is only safe if installed correctly. There can be some risk involved if you end up with a company that doesn’t actually know what it’s doing.
There are also quite a few other considerations when installing lighting including how many lights are installed as well as the brightness of those lights. When these decisions are made poorly, you won’t get the full value of your design.
The placement of the lights (which is also part of the design) can also make a huge difference. If the design is not followed closely during installation, it could negatively impact the end result.
Sometimes outdoor lighting companies are simply going through the motions or following a checklist of things to get done. Outdoor lighting is actually a lot more complex than people tend to realize and some companies do not truly understand what they’re doing.
But this is not the case if you hire a Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer who has gone through intensive (and extensive) training, and actually understands the work that they’re doing.
This is important when it comes to making decisions in the field…and also when it comes to trouble-shooting potential problems down the road. Outdoor lighting does need maintenance, which requires its own knowledge and skillset from an outdoor lighting technician. An outdoor lighting designer is not going to be able to repair something if they can’t diagnose what’s wrong.
Outdoor lighting is not exactly a small investment, so you want to make sure that you’re getting the most possible value out of it. While you can certainly find companies that will cut corners and do it cheaper, the very reasons that we outlined above are exactly why it’s worth paying a little bit more and getting the job done right.
When companies don’t truly understand what they’re doing or are only able to do a limited number of designs, your investment falls short.
But if you’re not willing to compromise and want only the best for your Memphis home, it’s worth choosing a Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer.
